Greyhound Dogs

Greyhound Dogs are becoming not only racing dogs but also family dogs. When you think of greyhounds you think straight away of greyhound betting and geyhound racing but have you thought about what happens to a greyhound dog when they retire?

Keeping a Greyhound as a family pet is not as strange as it seems. Sure they'll enjoy a walk, but 20 minutes a couple of times a day will be enough exercise for them. They'll enjoy lying on your settee for the rest of the day.

Greyhound dogs are not vicious, they love people. They may not mix well with cats or other small animals as they've been trained to attack them however if you've bread one from young, they will cuddle up to any animal.

Have you ever thought of where the 9000 or so greyhounds that retire from racing each year go? In the past alot were disposed off in awful ways, treat as if they only had one use in life they were left to die alongside motorways or clubbed to death. Organisations now exist where greyhounds are adopted and rehomed.

Most greyhounds retire from racing about 3 to 4 years old. They have a life expectancy of about 12 to 14 years so they have a lot of life to lead once retired.

Are you looking for a dog to rehome? Then check our menu for Greyhound retirement and look for a local organisation that will help you become a greyhound owner successfully.

Have a look at our Greyhound Racing Tips page for advice on the track racing.
